Honda given World Touring Car success ballast weight increase
The World Touring Car Championship has revealed its compensation weights for this weekend's third round of the season at the Hungaroring, with Honda taking on 70 kilograms of ballast
For the opening two rounds of the season, only the 2015 title-winning car - the Citroen C-Elysee - was handed any weight, with all five cars laden with 80 kilograms.
Citroen drivers Jose Maria Lopez and Yvan Muller had expressed their concerns about the level of weight they were being asked to carry, claiming it was both unsafe and unfair.
But following a scheduled review of weights, Honda - which has been Citroen's closest challenger so far this season - will carry only 10 kilograms less ballast at the Hungaroring.
Weights have been calculated based on laptime difference to the leading car over the first two rounds of the season, with every 0.1-second deficit equalling a loss of 10 kilograms of ballast.
The Civic - which has scored two wins in the hands of factory drivers Rob Huff and Tiago Monteiro - was judged to be 0.1s slower than the C-Elysee, and will therefore carry 70 kilograms.
Lada's three factory Vestas will carry an extra 50 kilograms, while both the Chevrolet Cruze and Polestar's Volvo S60 will remain without weight for the Hungaroring round.
Weight levels for the remainder of the season will be revised after each round.
