Farfus Secures Spa Pole
Alfa Romeo's Augusto Farfus Jr edged out BMW's challenge to secure pole position for Spa's first race World Touring Car Championship race tomorrow
The Brazilian pipped reigning European champion Andy Priaulx to the top spot after lapping the Ardennes circuit in 2:33.158 in today's qualifying session.
Priaulx was only 0.278s seconds behind, but beat fellow BMW drivers Jorg and Dirk Muller to the front row. Both Mullers only completed two qualifying laps in the session, yet their pace was enough to occupy the second row of the grid.
It was a return to form for the previously dominant BMWs, all benefiting from having no success ballast following their poor display at the last round in Mexico.
Jordi Gene was the highest Seat in fifth place, ahead Gabriele Tarquini's Alfa. Puebla star Roberto Colciago continued to impress in his privateer Honda, beating factory-back Alfa driver James Thompson to seventh.
This weekend's WTCC races are being held a day earlier on Saturday lunchtime, because of the Spa 24 Hours.
