Anderstorp 1: Larini through the spray

Nicola Larini carved his way through the spray to win the first of the ETCC races to be held at Anderstorp this weekend. The Alfa driver came under intense pressure from Rickard Rydell in the early stages, but as a dry line started to emerge the Italian upped his pace and pulled away

At the same time Rydell slipped back into the clutches of Fabrizio Giovanardi and very briefly Jorg Muller. However, no sooner had the BMW man passed Giovanardi's Alfa than he ran wide and dropped down the order as his 320 struggled for grip on the sodden run-off.

Giovanardi moved into second with a well executed move lap seven. The Swede then came under attack from team-mate James Hanson, until the young Brit made an over-optimistic lunge and ended up running off onto the grass at T1.

Jorg Muller recovered to take fourth ahead of Jordi Gene and Tom Ferrier, whose sixth place finish meant he would start the second race from pole position
