Sebastien Loeb to contest home European Rallycross round

Nine-time World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb will contest his home round of the European Rallycross Championship, which takes place at Loheac in France at the end of August

In his rallycross debut, the 39-year-old will join fellow WRC convert Petter Solberg, now a full-time RallycrossRX

Making his debut in European rallycross, the 39 year-old will join fellow World Rally convert Petter Solberg, who is a permanent driver in the nine-round RallycrossRX series.

Loeb has only once previously competed in rallycross, taking an X Games Gold Medal in Los Angeles last July, at the wheel of a Red Bull backed Citroen DS3.

"I enjoyed my experience at the X Games last year and I expect something similar," said Loeb. "Loheac is the temple of Rallycross. This is a well-known event with always a very big crowd. In a sportive side, this is also a very tough race."

AUTOSPORT opinion: rallycross is the future

Rallycross is Loeb's latest venture in what is turning out to be an eclectic season for the French star, who is competing in selected rounds of the WRC, the FIA GT Series, the Porsche Supercup and the Pike Peaks International Hill Climb.

Despite his versatility, Loeb is aware that he faces a tough challenge at Loheac.

"2013 is definitely a year full of challenges. I received an invitation from the Rallycross Loheac organiser Patrick Germain, and I decided to answer positively," said Loeb.

"Apart from the X Games, I have no experience in rallycross so I will probably have to fight hard against fast specialists in a very high level championship.

"I couldn't let this opportunity to participate at least once in my career pass, especially because it is with a Citroen DS3. I am looking forward to going to Loheac, meeting the fans and racing there."
