Wilson frustrated by Latvala's error

Ford team principal Malcolm Wilson has admitted to being frustrated by Jari-Matti Latvala's second accident in as many rallies, after the Finn's error in Germany this morning dropped him from fifth to 10th

Latvala rolled his Ford Focus RS WRC 08 near the end of the Birkenfelder Land test this morning.

"I misjudged the distance to the corner and then went into a field to try and avoid hitting a straw bale," he said.

"There was a ditch, which I didn't see, and the car rolled through the ditch. It was a slight roll, but the fan on the rear differential cooler is broken. I'm sure we can fix it and get back to service."

Team boss Wilson was philosophical but frustrated by the loss of positions.

"It's all part of the learning curve, but it's so frustrating after the terrific job he'd done yesterday," he said.

Wilson's brief for Latvala had been to bring his Ford home inside the top five. The Cumbrian is hopeful he can get back into that position by the end of the event tomorrow.

"Once the car's back in service we'll take a look at it," said Wilson. "But I'm sure he can still finish well."

Latvala's difficult morning continued in the next stage, following a 15-minute remote service.

"I missed one junction and had to reverse a little bit," said Latvala at the end of the Panzerplatte test, the rally's longest stage at 20 miles. "The driving is not going so well now - it's nothing to do with the car, it's me. I've lost my rhythm."
