Wilson: Ford the team to beat

Following Marrko Martin's second consecutive asphalt win at this weekend's Catalunya Rally, Ford's team boss Malcolm Wilson believes the Blue Oval has overtaken Citroen as the team to beat on sealed surfaces

Martin cruised to victory over Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm and Citroen's Carlos Sainz to claim his second asphalt win on the trot following his win at the Rally de France two weeks ago.

While Martin's team-mate Francois Duval retired from the event, the Belgian still managed to top the times on three stages on the first leg while Martin was quickest on five.

"Markko set five fastest times, while Francois Duval set three on the first leg before retiring," Wilson said. "This emphasises again that the Focus is the car to beat on asphalt."

Wilson also hailed Martin's performance and believed the Estonian drove a textbook rally. "For the second time this month, Markko has driven a fantastic rally," Wilson said. "His pace has been controlled right from the start and his performance over the last two days was a model example in how to dictate the pace of a rally from the front."
