Wilson believes pressure is off

Matthew Wilson feels that he will be able to push harder in WRC events next year because he will not be eligible for manufacturer points, this week's Autosport reports

The Brit is part of a three-car Stobart VK M-Sport team alongside Jari-Matti Latvala and Henning Solberg, but only two drivers can be nominated to score points in the manufacturers' championship.

In Wilson's maiden WRC season last year he scored just one point, as he was under strict instructions to get to the finish rather than risk crashing out of events.

"There's nothing like the feeling of being nominated to score points," said Wilson. "In some ways this takes the pressure off.

"Dad (team boss Malcolm Wilson) knows what he is doing. If it's going to help me in the longer-term then it's not a problem."

Wilson is expecting to have a stronger year in 2007 now that he has experience of the majority of events on the WRC schedule, and he is hoping that without the pressure for points he will be able to push harder when visiting events for the second time.
