Two Citroens retire before first stage
The Citroen World Rally team has had its worst possible start to the 2002 championship after the Xsara T4s of both Philippe Bugalski and Thomas Radstrom were forced into retirement before the season-opening Monte carlo Rally even got underway
Engine trouble is believed to be the culprit on both cars. Bugalski's T4 ran into problems after almost 75 km of road section on the way to the morning's first stage.
Radstrom, meanwhile, did not even make it that far with his engine giving up just five kilometres after the start. Both cars have failed to make the morning's first service are and have therefore become reluctant additions to the retirement list.
The morning's problems leaves just one Citroen left in the event with the French marque's hopes riding on the shoulders of protege Sebastien Loeb.
The first stage of the day, SS1 Selonnet-Turriers 1 is due to start at 0848 BST.
