Swedish Rally update
With just one stage remaining the battle is on to decide the outcome of the Swedish Rally
Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm is just 21.21km away from recording his first World Championship rally win and also that of the 206WRC, 14 years after Peugeot last won a WRC round (the 1986 RAC Rally).
However World Champion Tommi Makinen is about to throw caution to the wind in a last desperate bid to deny his fellow Finn despite not having reverse gear in his Mitsubishi.
If he oversteps the mark, regaining the road could be impossible...
The battle for third is just as intense.
Thomas Radstrom stole the place from Colin McRae on SS19 but with less than half a second between them there is everything to play for.
McRae, however, is a bag of nerves as he is seeking to finish his first event since winning Portugal last year. "You don't forget that in a hurry," he said.
The tension also appears to be affecting Radstrom's ebullient co-driver Tina Thorner.
She was spotted eating a chocolate bar at the service before the stage and explained:
"I'm not allowed to have sex during a rally and so this is the only thing that is keeping me going!" she explained in her typically outrageous way...
