Subaru aim to bounce back

Subaru World Rally Team sporting director Luis Moya believes the Japanese manufacturer will be competitive when the WRC returns from its 10-week summer break

Subaru have disappointed in the first half of the season with frequent reliability problems that have meant Petter Solberg has scored only two podium finishes, in the Mexican and Argentinean rounds of the championship.

Meanwhile Chris Atkinson hasn't finished higher than fifth this season.

Solberg was denied a podium finish in this weekend's Acropolis Rally when a non-competing car caused him to crash on a road section.

"We came here to fight for the win and we cannot help feel that through circumstances we could not control that this has not been possible," Moya said.

"Petter's stage wins clearly demonstrated that the car and Pirelli tyres can fight at the top of the leaderboard so it is all the more disappointing to leave with this result.

"Chris has worked hard to overcome his early problem in the rally and has at times shown his promise.

"We know we still have much work to do in the next two months however are confident that we can be competitive in the second half of the year."

Solberg says he has seen improvements in the Impreza WRC 06 during the weekend and is hopeful of a return to form for August's Rallye Deutschland.

"Despite the accident yesterday I've got to say that we have seen some very good improvements in the car and it looks positive," Solberg said.

"We need to take the positive points and put them into a package and I know we can get there. The team are going to be busy all through the summer but we know where we can improve and we are not going to give up. We'll be back."
