Stage 17: Burns storms back into lead
Richard Burns has retaken the lead in the Rally of Portugal
Fastest on the Gois 2 stage, he is now 10s ahead of Marcus Gronholm, who began the day with an advantage of nearly 30s.
Burns had lost over a minute yesterday when his power steering failed. Up to that point, the combination of the Englishman and the new Subaru Impreza P2000 was already looking unbeatable.
Further back in the pack, Freddy Loix is mounting a strong comeback drive after his messy start to the rally and brake problems this morning. The Mitsubishi driver moved ahead of Skoda's Armin Schwarz to take seventh on SS17.
Peugeot privateer Adruzilo Lopes has now dropped back to 12th after breaking his suspension in the stage. This has allowed Toni Gardemeister to move up into the top ten for SEAT on his first visit to the Portugeese event.
