Stage 10: Burns extends lead
Richard Burns extended his lead by setting the fastest time on stage 10 of the Safari Rally
With just two stages remaining, the Subaru driver now has a 6m10s advantage over his team-mate Juha Kankkunen, although this is still a relatively narrow margin given the reputation of this most demanding of rallies.
Didier Auriol lost time on the Oltepesi stage, but his third position still seems secure given that the rally has nearly reached its end.
Carlos Sainz, now with working power steering, has closed on his team-mate Petter Solberg in the battle for fourth place. Team orders are likely to be imposed to ensure that the Spaniard gets as many points as possible.
