SS22, Campbell 2: Solberg again

Subaru star Petter Solberg proved fastest for the second stage out of the last three on the Rally New Zealand, as his team mate Richard Burns inched closer to outright victory

The Norwegian was just six tenths of a second quicker than the charging Colin McRae who continued his quest to steal Burns' glory and take a famous win. But with Burns losing only eight tenths of a second on the 7.44km stage, the Scot looks unlikely to be successful. With just two stages left, Burns holds a 14.7s lead over his rival.

Reigning world champion Marcus Gronholm and Frenchman Francois Delecour split McRae and Burns on the stage in third, while Tommi Makinen was fifth quickest for Mitsubishi.

There was a dead heat for sixth between Didier Auriol and Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard maintains his third place overall and has a five second advantage over Harri Rovanpera. Gronholm lies just a second behind his Peugeot team-mate in fifth.
