SS18, Gravia 2: Sainz getting closer...
Carlos Sainz took his stage win tally on the Rally Acropolis to four, being quickest through SS18, Gravia 2, to set up a grandstand finish to the seventh round of the World Rally Championship.
Sainz has cut team mate Colin McRae's lead to seven seconds as the rally regroups at service before launching the final attack on the event's last two stages. Ford will be more than happy to read the results on SS18 as Ford Focuses set the fastest three times, with Francois Delecour then Colin McRae finishing behind the Spaniard.
Harri Rovanpera's Peugeot 206 WRC was fourth through the 17.13km rerun of Gravia, which coincidentally, Sainz won when the stage was first run on Saturday.
The Subaru pairing of Richard Burns and Petter Solberg were fifth and sixth, four seconds off Sainz's pace. Bur with more than 46km of competitive timed sections left, Carlos Sainz has the chance to snatch victory from Colin McRae, the question is, will he take that chance?
But the battle for the lead is not the only fascinating encounter to be settled over the last two stages. Delecour is 12 seconds behind championship leader Tommi Makinen and the Mercurial Frenchman will no doubt be eager to bag the fifth place, and the two points, Makinen at the moment is in line to receive.
