SS16, Gois 2: Finns get their act together

Under pressure Finns Tommi Makinen and Marcus Gronholm got their collective fingers out on SS16 of the Rally of Portugal, extending their advantages over challengers Carlos Sainz and Richard Burns for the lead and third place, respectively

Mitsubishi's Makinen was fastest on Gois 2, 4.3secs ahead of the Peugeot of Marcus Gronholm but, more importantly, 12secs ahead of Sainz. The Spaniard is now 28.7secs in arrears in second position.

Subaru's Burns was 1.8secs slower than Gronholm's time and is now 5.5secs behind Peugeot's reigning world champion in fourth place.

Three more stages remain today.
