SS15, Elatia-Rengini 1: Burns blows it!

Richard Burns has blown his chances of winning the Acropolis Rally by going off the road and losing nearly three minutes on the 38.69km Elatia-Rengini test, SS15

Subaru ace Burns had been eating into the lead of Ford's Colin McRae after starting day three third on the road. With McRae and second-placed Carlos Sainz acting as road-sweepers, Burns had the best of the road conditions with which to charge, but went off before the halfway point of the stage and lost the time rejoining

Subaru young gun Petter Solberg was fastest on the stage, moving to within 57.8s of McRae, who was second. Francois Delecour and Sainz made sure Ford padded out the places.

Burns' mistake has knocked him out of the points. The Englishman lies seventh overall, one spot off a point, but 13.7s from the sixth-placed flying Delecour.

Gilles Panizzi is the latest retirement after breaking the suspension of his Grifone Peugeot 206 WRC on the day's first stage. The Frenchman reached the start of SS15, but was OTL on his arrival.
