SS14, Osor 1: Auriol attacks

The battle for victory in the Catalunya Rally is back on with a vengeance after leader Philippe Bugalski's Citroen ran into clutch problems on the 13.26km Osor 1 stage.

His closest challenger Didier Auriol set the fastest time through the stage in the Peugeot and clipped a handy 8.9s off Bugalski's lead, leaving it at 24.9s. Bugalski must now complete SS15 Collsesplanes 1 - the longest stage of the day at 2628km - before the next service halt.

Gilles Panizzi continued his good form today to be second fastest, all-but matching team mate Auriol's time. Tommi Makinen was third fastest, but is still dropping away from Panizzi's third place overall.

Richard Burns continues to edge towards a points finish, fourth fastest time brings him another two seconds closer to his goal. Ahead of him, Carlos Sainz, Francois Delecour and Freddy Loix continue to swap places with alarming regularity.

This time Sainz was the quickest of the three and moves up from seventh to fifth, Loix mirrored his move in reverse and Delecour stayed put in sixth...Phew!
