SS13, Penitencier Coti 1: Panizzi fast

Peugeot's Gilles Panizzi took some time off rally leader Jesus Puras in the first of leg three's stages, setting the fastest time SS13, Penticencier Coti 1. However the Citroen driver still has a 17-second advantage over Frenchman Panizzi as the Corsica Rally nears its climax

Panizzi's Peugeot 206 WRC completed Penitencier Coti's 24.05km in 15m10.6s, almost six seconds faster than Puras, with the second Peugeot of Didier Auriol rounding out the top three on the stage.

Richard Burns is doing his best to improve his championship chances after he set the fourth fastest time on SS13. He still lies in seventh overall, but he's closing in on the points positions after those ahead of him encountered problems in the first of Sunday's stages.

Team mate Petter Solberg, lying in fourth overall, spun his Impreza on SS13. He was sixth through the stage, 11 seconds slower than Burns. Francois Delecour, fifth at the end of leg two, suffered a puncture and finished over a minute behind the leaders. Burns is now just two seconds behind Delecour in the battle for sixth place.

Harri Rovanpera made it a trio of Peugeots in the top five after completing the stage eight seconds slower than Burns' time.

Colin McRae, well down in the standings after yesterday's problems, was seventh fastest, followed by Piero Liatti's Hyundai, Neil Wearden's Grifone-run Peugeot and his brother Alister in the second Hyundai.
