SS13, Agios Theodoros: Sainz top, leaders ease off

It was Carlos Sainz's turn to top the time sheets on the penultimate stage of Leg Two as leaders Colin McRae and Richard Burns fight to take second place overnight on the Cyprus Rally

McRae set the fastest time on the previous stage to take the overall lead, but both he, and fellow Brit Burns, would prefer not to be in front overnight in order to avoid being the first man on the road for the final leg of the event on Sunday.

Marcus Gronholm was leading at the end of Leg One, but the Finn has struggled as first man along the dusty Cyprus roads today (Saturday) and has dropped to third overall.

Sainz was fastest on the second running of the short 9.61km Agios Theodoros stage by 1.8s with Burns in second spot. Gronholm finished third in his Peugeot 206 WRC.

McRae finished a lowly fourth after setting a blistering pace on the previous stage, allowing Burns to close to within 1.2s of the overall lead.

Freddy Loix finished fifth fastest in the sole remaining Mitsubishi, closely followed by the Hyundai Accent WRC of Alister McRae.
