SS11 Escaladei 2: The Auriol awakes
Peugeot staged a mini fightback on the second run through the shortest stage of the day, the 14.43km Escaladei. Auriol sparkled to take his second stage win of the rally and his team mate Gilles Panizzi split the Citroens with third fastest time
Overall leader Philippe Bugalski maintained his recent marginal superiority over team mate Jesus Puras in the battle of the Xsara T4s, beetling through Escaladei 1.6s faster than the Spaniard.
The small margins between the times meant there was little difference caused to the overall picture, though Francois Delecour's fifth fastest time lifted him into seventh place, ahead of Mitsubishi's Freddy Loix.
Ninth fastest time for Richard Burns means no further progress up the leaderboard for Subaru's English team leader. Britain's other remaining hope Alister McRae is on the move, but in the wrong direction. McRae, who has been troubled by turbo wastegate problems has been overhauled by his Hyundai team mate Piero Liatti. The Scot is now 13th overall.
