Sordo keeps '06 Xsara until Cyprus

Spaniard Dani Sordo will retain the second 2006-specification Citroen Xsara at least until the Cyprus rally, this week's Autosport reports

After a second-place finish in Germany on his debut nomination to score points for Kronos Racing last week, team principal Marc van Dalen has confirmed that Sordo will be nominated for points in Cyprus as well as Finland and Japan.

Depending on his results, Sordo could be driving the number two car until the end of the season.

Sordo took over the Citroen that has been used by fellow Spaniard Xavier Pons since the start of the year, while Pons swapped to Sordo's 2005 version.

Under the new regulations, the latest cars have to make do with mechanical rather than active differentials, and only those can score points for the manufacturer.

"We will have nominated Dani up until Cyprus, and then we will see," said Van Dalen. "If it is suitable for him to stay in the car, why not?

"But the crazy thing is that it is still not guaranteed he will have the money to finish the season, so we wanted to give him this opportunity now. As well as giving young drivers the best means to express their talent, our role is to help their professional development."

The young Spaniard is pinning his hopes on taking enough top results in the remaining events this year to land the second factory Citroen seat next season alongside Sebastien Loeb.

"I would like to be with Sebastien next year very much and we get on well together but it's not up to me," Sordo said. "This is a very important time for my future now, so I have to do the best job I can in each rally."
