Solberg looking to win on gravel

Subaru's Petter Solberg believes if he is to win a world rally this year, it will be one of the upcoming block of gravel rallies, which kicks off with the Cyprus Rally next month

Solberg has scored five world championship points this year - all on the tarmac rounds in Monte Carlo, Corsica and Spain. But the young Norwegian reckons it will be on gravel that he will excel.

"So far, this season has been very good for me," he said. "Points in three tarmac rallies are more than I expected, but now my favourite rallies start...

"I'm really looking forward to Cyprus, Argentina, Greece, Kenya and Finland. If I win a rally this year, I suggest it will be one of those.

"I also feel that after this Spanish rally we are well prepared for the tarmac in Germany," he added. "So we have a lot to look forward to."

His boss at Subaru, team principal David Lapworth, said on Saturday that he thought his young charger was ready to win a WRC event.

"Petter is ready. His pace is there," Lapworth told Rally Radio. "Every driver makes mistakes, even world champions make mistakes, but Petter's mistakes are getting further and further apart. He's nearly there."

The Cyprus Rally gets underway on April 19.
