Solberg eyes WTCC future

Former world rally champion Petter Solberg is chasing a switch to the World Touring Car Championship in 2011, this week's AUTOSPORT reveals

The Norwegian is out of contract for the WRC next year, but has an offer from Citroen that he is struggling to finance.

Having made it clear earlier this year that he was considering a racing switch, Solberg has revealed that WTCC is his main target now.

"I know what I can do on the track, and that's why I'm looking at the WTCC," Solberg told AUTOSPORT.

"I am very interested in testing some cars to see what they're like. I have tested Formula 1 and Le Mans cars and they went well. At the moment it's tough in the WRC, so I am exploring other possibilities and the biggest of those is the WTCC."

Solberg is competing in the first round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in Monte Carlo next month, but says he would rather switch to the WTCC than continue there if an offer came up.
