Service K - Ajaccio: Citroen success
The rain finally arrived on the final two stages of the Corsica Rally leaving the drivers to deal with some standing water on the penultimate test with only hand-cut slick tyres at their disposal. Despite the conditions however, Puras managed to hold on
(Citroen) - rally winner: "The last stage was so difficult and I couldn't believe it when it started to rain. But I'm just so delighted for the whole team."
(Peugeot) - second, +17.5s: "It was not possible to win here. There was no way I could risk sliding into the trees on the last stage. I thought after Sanremo that the Citroen might have a little advantage here and I think that has happened."
(Peugeot) - third, +1m11.9s: "Once I lost contact with Jesus and Gilles yesterday (Saturday) morning, I could only hope to hold onto third. If I hadn't had that rain on SS7, I might have been able to fight Gilles, but victory would have been too much. I'm just glad to be on maximum points for Peugeot."
(Subaru) fourth, +4m53.1s: "Today worked well, but I made a mistake on the first day so to get fifth out of it is good. When I hit the wall on the first morning, I didn't even think we'd carry on." (Quote from before two-minute penalty for team mate Petter Solberg.)
(Subaru) - fifth, +4m53.9 The Norwegian was given a two-minute penalty for entering a regroup area early after the final service, due to team orders from Subaru: "It's been very difficult and I'm very happy with my performance and the result. I think it's one of the best drives of my career and I learned a lot. It was difficult for me this afternoon in the changing conditions, because I need more experience in the wet." (Quote from before penalty.)
(Subaru) - sixth, +5m21.6s: "I'm just pleased to get to the finish. The conditions this afternoon were very like the conditions when I crashed in Sanremo. I wasn't happy when I saw the rain."
(Ford) - 10th, +9m26.1s: The Frenchman lost his brakes during the penultimate stage and was forced to continue without for the last eight kilometres of that test and all of the last.
