Service B – Raglan: Fragile Peugeots
Marcus Gronholm (Peugeot) - rally leader: Co driver Timo Rautianen said: "We are very surprised to be fastest. We think we have a centre diff problem. There is no grip and the car is very difficult to drive. It is possibly a (software) mapping problem. Marcus was talking to me all the time saying the car was broken. I nearly had to hit him on the helmet so say, 'Just drive!'"
(Hyundai) - second, +02.8s: "The rear anti-roll bar is broken so tyre wear is very heavy at the front. The car is feeling nervous. I was happy with the time but I'm not driving at 100 per cent."
(Ford) - third, +03.3s: "The tyres are working very well. We're trying our best to stay on Tommi's lines but it's not that big a difference. The guys behind aren't going flat out so there is no real point in looking at the times. All we can do is push."
(Subaru) - fourth, +04.4s: "The tyres felt good on the fast stuff, but near the end it got narrower and twistier and I lost grip. Today is like a test"
(Ford) - seventh, +13.7s: "I went like Carlos on wide tyres and it felt quite nervous. I couldn't have gone much quicker."
(Ford) - eighth, +15.5s: "I took the wider tyre and it felt a bit nervous. Colin is driving very well, but I'm not taking any risks at the moment."
(Peugeot) - ninth, +16.0s: "In the first few corners I was exploring the grip levels and we had a few wide moments. After that it was OK. I've driven better. Right from the start, we heard a noise in the transmission like the one we had on Rally Deutchland. It might be the transfer box again."
Grifone's mechanics have just changed the transfer box, the front diff and the gearbox on Wearden's Peugeot in an amazing 22 minutes. Rival teams are stunned at the time. Wearden will pick up a 20 second penalty for leaving service 2 minutes late, but the team's achievement is remarkable.
(Peugeot) - 10th, +16.7s: "That stage was new to me, but the pacenotes worked well. We'll have to push more on the next three stages."
(Mitsubishi) - 12th, +24.4s: "We went quite soft on the suspension to find more grip but I think we went too soft. I can see clean lines but I can't stay in them because the chassis is moving around so much."
(Subaru) - 13th, +27.4s: "Colin did a good time for where he was on the road. My diffs aren't working very well under braking and it's oversteering quite a lot. There's no pushing hard today because it would be embarrassing at the end. Colin has no choice but to go as fast as he can but we don't want to be too far away."
(Mitsubishi) - 14th, +31.7s: Gardemeister spun 3km into the first stage and lost around 20 seconds. "It was a very slow corner. I'm still learning how to drive this car. I lifted my foot off the gas and I spun and stalled."
(Mitsubishi) - 15th, +41.7s: "I think I was a little bit too steady, but it was still very difficult under braking because there are no lines to show braking points. All the time I am too early. We can certainly go faster."
(Subaru) - 16th, +45.6s: "I went off into a ditch and then up a bank about 7km from the end. I think the suspension alignment is off."
