Sebastien Ogier slams Sebastien Loeb comparisons ahead of Mexico
Sebastien Ogier says the time has come for comparisons between himself and Sebastien Loeb to stop
Ogier has grown increasingly frustrated by the media's fascination with drawing parallels between the careers of the two Frenchmen, to the extent that he refused to answer questions on the subject on the season-opening Monte Carlo Rally.
This week's Rally Mexico is the first WRC round to start without the now semi-retired Loeb in seven years.
Opinion: WRC begins life after Loeb
And Ogier believes that is the ideal cue to cease equating his rise to Loeb's.
"I don't think we need these comparisons anymore," said Ogier. "I can tell you, I am not the new Sebastien Loeb, I am Sebastien Ogier.
"I heard so many times this comparison that I just don't think we need it now.
"I think it's very odd to compare people that are 10 years apart. I am a different generation. If I was 10 years older and fighting with him maybe [it would be relevant], but it's not like that - he's not here anymore."
Loeb and Ogier famously fell out when they shared the Citroen team in 2011, with Ogier's position becoming untenable with the French firm, forcing his move to Volkswagen.
