Schwarz tests new Hyundai

Armin Schwarz has been in Spain testing the latest evolution of the Hyundai Accent, the WRC3, ahead of its debut on the forthcoming Corsica Rally - and the German says the new car is already quicker than its predecessor

Schwarz spent a day with the new machine, and reported a significant number of improvements.

"Hyundai have homologated a new turbo charger for the Accent WRC3 that delivers an improved throttle response and increased top end power," he said. "You can really feel the difference."

However, while acknowledging that the new car was quick, Schwarz said that realising the car's full potential would not be instant, but more of a longer term project.

"The Accent WRC3 is quicker than its predecessor, but we are not making full use of its potential," he said. "From the electronics side we are now able to control a semi-automatic gearbox and an active differential. But we still need to do some testing with the box and diff, and so I think it will be at least late August until they are in the car."

The German was very positive about driving the car in Corsica. "I have the feeling we've put together a good car for the Mediterranean island," he said.

Team-mate Freddy Loix is also testing the car.
