Rally GB safeguarded by revisions
The Rally of Great Britain looks to have safeguarded its future as part of the World Rally Championship after revisions to spectator control and safety were judged a qualified success, according to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT
Organisers of the event are confident that the package of measures, including advance ticket sales and car park limits, worked well enough to gain approval for the rally to hold onto its WRC status in 2003.
Despite the improvements, the event still faces a number of internal investigations after one stage had to be cancelled to due spectator safety concerns.
Rally GB clerk of the course, Fred Gallagher, said that the organisers were satisfied with the progress made. "Everyone made a colossal effort and the initial feedback has been positive. Clearly, we have some issues to look at, but we're very satisfied by how the spectator control measures worked."
The organisers must now wait for an FIA report to be produced, the results of which will determine the Rally GB's WRC future. However, FIA observer Simo Lampinen seemed happy with the event, saying: "I was impressed by a number of the measures that had been introduced. "
