Peugeot summoned to FIA

Citroën driver Sebastien Loeb could yet be handed victory on last week's Cyprus Rally, after an FIA meeting in Paris on Wednesday cast further doubt on the win recorded by Marcus Gronholm's Peugeot 307

Parts from both the 307 and Citroën's Xsara were inspected by FIA technical experts at the meeting, which was not attended by either manufacturer. But Peugeot has been told to attend a further meeting in Paris next Wednesday to explain technical details.

An FIA statement this morning (Thursday) said: "Further to a report received from the FIA Technical Delegate following the 2004 Cyprus Rally, representatives of Marlboro Peugeot Total have been called to a Stewards meeting at the FIA Headquarters in Paris on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 1100 hours."

Autosport understands that the uncertainty does surround homologation issues, and that the 307's water pump is the main point of concern.

Since no mention has been made of Citroën, it seems clear that the Xsara's parts passed inspection without need for further investigation. If both Peugeots are removed from the results, Loeb would be declared winner, with Markko Martin second and reigning world champion Petter Solberg third.
