Peugeot pushing for reliability
Peugeot Motorsport boss Corrado Provera has pledged to improve the reliability of the team's new-for-2004 307 WRC before the next round of the championship in New Zealand on April 16-18
The 307 model replaced the successful 206 which took Marcus Gronholm to his first WRC title in 2002. The car has proved to be as quick as its Subaru and Ford rivals in every round so far this season - Monte Carlo, Sweden and Mexico - but far more fragile.
Gronholm struggled in last weekend's Rally Mexico after his Peugeot suffered power steering and hydraulic failures, and he is known to be getting impatient with his team.
" We have been pleased with the performance of our new car but disappointed with the lack of reliability, which did not allow our drivers to express themselves to the maximum of their ability," said Provera. "I'm convinced that Marcus could have won Rally Mexico.
"Now we have to harder than we ever have done before in order to ensure a strong performance in every area in New Zealand. This is our challenge, and we are looking forward to it."
