McRae attacks new points system

Colin McRae has won support for his attack on the new points system introduced for the Corsica Rally

The Scot was not happy with the system that awarded three points to the fastest driver on the final televised stage of the Tour de Corse.

And it was those benefiting from the change that agreed with his complaint.

Didier Auriol, who won the controversial stage and finished fifth overall, said, 'I haven't changed my mind just because I won the stage - three points is too much.

'The drivers have said this all along but, as usual, we have been ignored. But perhaps we will be listened to for next year.'

Carlos Sainz added, 'There is too much of an imbalance with three points when there is only 10 for a win. We should be looking at one point or maybe two, though it is right that we televise the final stage.'

McRae's fourth place after a gear failure in his Ford Focus ensured he lost the narrow advantage he held over Sainz, while Auriol ended up with with more points than McRae in spite of finishing one place behind.

'Didier scored more points than me for just 10 minutes work, said McRae.

'I said beforehand it was wrong to give three points to the stage winner and I still believe that.
