Makinen going faster still
Only a mistake, a mechanical problem or an act of God can stop Tommi Makinen winning the Rally New Zealand.
Despite having a lead of nearly two minutes, Makinen continues to set fastest stage times and pull away from Juha Kankkunen.
In fact the field is incredibly spread out, with twenty minutes covering the top ten. With few close battles, other than Possum Bourne's attempts to get a little more local glory by taking 4th place from Didier Auriol, we will have to rely on retirements or accidents to provide the excitement.
The main problem today could be the servicing arrangements. With all today's stages relatively short, there is no servicing for the cars, so drivers will be very wary of damaging anything.
