Loeb upbeat after pre-Mexico test

Sebastien Loeb believes a test in Catalunya prior to next weekend's Rally Mexico will be key to improving his Citroen Xsara's performance this season

The Rally Mexico is the first WRC event this season to be held on a loose surface, and Loeb thinks that the test has helped his Kronos team acclimatise to the new passive differentials in use this season.

Loeb is hoping to return to the winner's podium in Mexico, after a brace of second places so far this season.

"Like on asphalt, most of the work has been done to put the car in compliance with the 2006 specifications," Loeb said. "Progressively we have fine-tuned the front and rear mechanical differentials set-up. On asphalt and snow we had found some performing settings, which made the car well balanced and easy to drive.

"On gravel we all know that it is crucial to work on the handling. In a word, we had a lot to achieve and I think we did well. The car suits me. As usual, we will have the confirmation of the pace when we see the stage times but I am confident.

"The Xsara has always performed well in Mexico. I hope it will still be the case and that we could fight for a win. It would be the best way to reach our first target, which is not to let Marcus [Gronholm] run away in the championship."
