Loeb: Argentina - Toughest Win

Sebastien Loeb described his Rally Argentina win as the toughest of his record-breaking seven victories this season

Despite there being seven rallies left on this year's calendar, Loeb has already taken enough victories necessary to surpass his and Didier Auriol's joint-record of six wins in a season.

Auriol took six wins in 1992, and Loeb matched it last year when he won six rallies on his way to his first WRC title. It is Loeb's sixth consecutive victory, and he also now stands alone in the record books for the number of on-the-trot WRC victories, having matched Auriol's 1992 record at last month's Rally of Turkey.

But Loeb credited the tricky weather conditions and the competition from Marcus Gronholm and Petter Solberg as one of the reasons this was his toughest victory of 2005.

"Yes, it was the most difficult to obtain this year," Loeb said of his win. "Marcus and Petter were pushing very hard from behind. I had to drive on the limit in difficult conditions: yesterday there was mud, today there was ice and snow. It was never easy, a lot of the time I was close to making a mistake. I try to push very hard, but it was difficult to win this rally.

"We couldn't expect so much at the start of the season. To be leading the Championship and to win six rallies in a row is incredible, both for me and for Citroen. Everything has worked perfectly for all six rallies.

"Yes, the seven wins, I'm happy to have them, but also six in a row - what can you say? The most important for me is the Championship, but also it's a great pleasure to break a record.

"Didier Auriol held this record for more than 10 years and now we broke it. It's a record for me, but also for all the team who give me a perfect car - which is why it is going so well this year."
