J-WRC gets financial boost

A €50,000 commercial fund has been set up by the World Rally Championship's promoters to help drivers competing in the Junior WRC category this year

The fund will be operated by International Sportsworld Communicators with the aim being to allow potential sponsors to support all the drivers rather than a team or just one driver. Official tyre suppliers Pirelli have got the ball rolling by being the first company to become involved.

Any drivers who wish to be included in the scheme will be required to wear Pirellli logos on their cars and wear Pirelli caps. 85 per cent of the fund will be divided between all the competitors while the remaining 15 per cent will go to the most successful drivers.

"This is an excellent initiative," said ISC managing director Simon Long. "And, without doubt, Pirelli is a great partner for the project considering its success over the years. Not only will the J-WRC benefit from its motorsport expertise but Pirelli will also support the promotion of these young drivers. The media attention for J-WRC continues to grow, and last year it was seen in over 110 countries."

Pirelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery added: "We are delighted to be part of this initiative and to benefit the career of the stars of the future. Our involvement as a tyre supplier in this championship gives J-WRC drivers a chance to learn about Pirelli's products and the competitors who carry our brands will give us great exposure."
