Hyundai adds youth to driver line-up

The Hyundai World Rally team has opted to further boost its driver line-up for 2002 by adding up-and-coming Polish star Tomasz Kuchar to its books

A former Polish Formula 2 Rally Champion, Kuchar is to join the team's regular drivers Freddy Loix and Armin Schwarz on four WRC events this year in an attempt to nurture talent for the future.

"It is of importance to the future of the World Rally Championship that all teams nurture and develop the drivers of tomorrow," said Hyundai team boss David Whitehead. "We are delighted to have Tomasz join us and are very much looking forward to playing a key role in the development of this young driver's career."

Hyundai also has four-time world champion Juha Kankkunen signed up for this year and the Flying Finn is set to drive an Accent WRC on all gravel rounds this year.

Kuchar, meanwhile, will make his first appearance for the MSD-run Hyundai team on the Tour de Corse in March with co-driver Maciej Szczepaniak. The 25-year-old is also confirmed for Catalunya Rally, Rallye Deutschland and Sanremo Rally, but is hoping to extend that to include some gravel events.
