Honkanen Hails Gardemeister's 2nd

Toni Gardemeister's co-driver Jakke Honkanen rated their drive to second in the Acropolis Rally as the duo's best performance of the season

Gardemesister overhauled double World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz on Leg Two, and pushed hard to take runner-up spot behind Loeb.

Honkanen said: "This was the best for us this season. The season started well, but in this rally we were fighting all the time for the podium, we had some bad luck in Cyprus and Sardinia.

"We had the chance of finishing in the top three on those rallies, then we had a difficult rally in Turkey, there was a lot of pressure here. We really had to fight together to do better and we are very happy to do it.

"At the moment it feels really good for keeping our drive with Ford next season. Also that we have been able to make our performance better and better in every rally. The best rallies for us are coming at the moment, I feel very confident.

Gardemeister was more modest on the achievement, however, stating: "The rally was okay for us. We started to push quite a lot at the start and we had no problems during the rally at all, only some very small things.

"The most difficult stages in the rally were the last two. It was very difficult to keep the car on the road at a safe speed."
