Galli in talks with Red Bull's Skoda
Gigi Galli has claimed there is a possibility of him competing with Red Bull's Skoda team in some events of this year's World Rally Championship
The popular Italian has competed the first two rounds of the series in a privateer Mitsubishi Lancer, run by Mitsubishi Motors Motor Sports out of the team's Rugby base, with support from Ralliart Italy.
He finished fourth in last weekend's Swedish Rally, however the two-event deal has now come to an end and he is not entered for next month's Rally Mexico.
Galli's season was thrown into doubt when Mitsubishi withdrew from the WRC as a works manufacturer last December.
The Italian, who has also been linked with Subaru, has confirmed he has spoken with Red Bull Skoda boss Armin Schwarz about occasional outings in the Fabia. He is also hopeful of further outings with in the Lancer with help from team principal Isao Torii.
Galli qualifies to enter for Manufacturer 2 teams such as Skoda because he has not finished in the top six of the WRC in the past six years.
"The mini programme set up at the end of December with Ralliart ends here. Let's hope this fourth place helps me to find a solution for the future," Galli told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Armin has talked to me about the possibility of giving me the Fabia for some rallies, and Isao Torii keeps working towards getting me more drives with the Mitsubishi: let's hope for a happy ending.
"I'm sure if Mitsubishi hadn't have left the championship, then we would have got some good results: the Pirellis are competitive and with some testing and normal development, the car would have been able to keep up with the best."
Earlier last week, Galli admitted to Autosport that a Subaru was another option for events this season. Any deal to install Gall in an Impreza would likely be with a Prodrive supported private team.
"Subaru is one option," Galli told Autosport. "I don't know how far Mitsubishi can go. My main priority is staying in the WRC. It's a question of putting together the best deal to get me through the year."
