Day 1am: Peugeot leads

Harri Rovanpera was the class of the Peugeot field on the first leg of Rally Finland on Friday pulling off a hat-trick of stage wins.

The Finn leads team-mate Sebastien Lindholm, who has been drafted in for his local knowledge, by 5.9s with Subaru's Petter Solberg the nearest non-Peugeot driver in third spot, 13s off the pace. The third Peugeot of Marcus Gronholm is in fourth, but less than half a second down on Solberg.

Janne Tuohino is leading the Ford challenge in fifth, a second off Gronholm's time while team-mate Markko Martin, who has recovered from his horrific smash in Argentina, is sixth, a second off Tuohino.

Mikko Hirvonen is seventh in the second Subaru ahead of Citroen's Carlos Sainz, who is bidding for his second-successive win after picking up the spoils at the last round in Argentina.

Meanwhile, four spectators were injured on the second stage of the day Finn Ari Laivola's Mitsubishi left the road. Reports indicate that one person has been sent to hospital while the three others received treatment on the spot.

The stage was halted and the remaining cars left to run were allotted times.
