Citroen Eyes WRC Return in 2007

Citroen Sport is postponing a decision concerning its motorsport programme for next season in the hope of returning to world rallying in 2007, according to this week's Autosport

The Paris-based outfit will withdraw from the series at the end of this year along with PSA Group partner Peugeot, but team boss Guy Frequelin believes that under the right circumstances Citroen may only be away from the WRC for one year as a full manufacturer.

Frequelin said: "Under the right sporting and technical regulations we would be back in 2007. This is why we have not made decisions about 2006. We want to wait and see the regulations for the following year."

Citroen have a fifty per cent drop in budget for the next two years, meaning the calendar of rallies would have to be dropped from 16 to 12 rounds with costs of competing also reduced.

Frequelin added: "At the last working group meeting I made the point that if we can make these changes then maybe we can come back. I know Citroen is not the only team trying to make these changes."
