Citroen criticised after appeal
Leading figures in world rallying have called for action against Citroen after the team dropped its appeal over Sebastien Loeb's penalty on the Monte Carlo Rally
"Citroen has acted unfairly in benefiting from the media exposure without pursuing its appeal," Mitsubshi Ralliart team principal Andrew Cowan said in this week's AUTOSPORT magazine. "In cases like this, you should be forced to see through the appeal unless the circumstances change or new evidence comes to light. In this instance, the circumstances did not change at all."
A statement from Citroen said the team withdrew its appeal "in order to a good relationship with the FIA." But the team's stance is thought to have angered senior FIA officials.
"We need to look at the rules generally in light of what happened in Monte Carlo," said FIA president Max Mosely, although any sanctions are unlikely to be taken until the next meeting of the World Council on March 20.
