Cave plans more WRC events in '09
British teenager Tom Cave expects to follow a mixed programme of World Rally Championship and Intercontinental Rally Challenge events this year
Cave, who became the WRC's youngest ever competitor when he started last year's Rally GB at the age of 17, said he had yet to finalise a schedule for 2009, but wanted to use the year to build his experience.
"We have vaguely got plans, we're speaking to a few people today at the show," said Cave at the Autosport International show.
"We haven't organised a full plan for the year. I think this year all I can do is just get the experience of driving in different countries in Europe. It's most likely that we'll do some events in the IRC and WRC."
In 2010 the WRC is set to adopt a variation of the Super 2000 technical rules used in the rival IRC series, so Cave thinks any mileage he can get in the latter will be valuable.
"By the time I get into the WRC, hopefully, full time it will be Super 2000," he said.
Cave added that he hopes to be part of a British revival in the WRC, as there has been a shortage of Britons at rallying's top level since the late Colin McRae and Richard Burns stopped competing.
"There aren't many British competitors in WRC who are fighting for rally wins, so I think it's good for competitors my age to come through and bring some new blood into the sport," said Cave.
