Burns contract wrangle hits the courts

Subaru began proceedings today (Tuesday) to get a High Court injunction to stop World Rally Champion Richard Burns from driving for any other team until it has been contractually decided which outfit the Brit will drive for next year

It was announced in October that Burns, who became the first Englishman to win the title at last month's Rally GB, would switch from Subaru to Peugeot for 2002 and '03.

However, the former is believed to have a clause in its contract with Burns that gives the Prodrive-run team first option on his services were he to take the championship this year.

Burns drove the Peugeot 206 WRC on the Monday after Rally GB and is also thought to have driven the car again in France last week.

However, Subaru is attempting to stop that happening again until contractual wrangles over which team the world champion will drive for are settled, through an injunction with the High Court in London.
