Burns confident ahead of Acropolis
World Rally Champion Richard Burns is confident of scoring his first win for Peugeot on next week's Acropolis Rally, aiming to dispel the disappointment of his exclusion from Rally Argentina last month.
Burns inherited victory in Argentina from team-mate Marcus Gronholm for just a few hours, but when his 206 was excluded for a technical infringement, the team left Argentina pointless. The latest evolution of the 206 WRC makes its competitive debut in Greece, and Burns says he's feeling especially positive about his chances.
"I have never felt so optimistic before the start of a rally since I joined Peugeot," said Burns, who won the rough gravel event in 1999. "It's a rally I enjoy and I'm feeling particularly confident this year. After Cyprus and Argentina my understanding of the 206 has moved up a step."
Team boss Corrado Provera says recent tests gives the whole team reason to be optimistic.
"After all we went through in Argentina, our team is more determined than ever," said Provera. "Our hopes of figuring well in Greece have been boosted by our recent highly encouraging tests there with the 2002 Evolution 206 WRC.
"Of course, nothing can replace actually competing on the event itself, but the latest evolution of the car promises to be even stronger than its predecessor, which finished first, second and fourth in Cyprus," he added.
