Loeb to make final push to catch up
Sebastien Loeb will have one final shot at getting back into the Rally Japan reckoning on this afternoon's re-run Kamuycep stage
The Frenchman is sixth after running first on the road and being unable to find the right rhythm through yesterday's opening day. Loeb admitted he had pushed hard this morning and would continue to do so in the afternoon's 20-mile test.
"I will try again in the long stage," said Loeb, who started this afternoon's loop 34.3 seconds off the lead, "and then we will see. If we are not so close then, then maybe it's time to be more sensible and not take the risk after that.
"I find these roads difficult, it's hard to find the rhythm for me again. The ruts were coming, the road is soft, it's just not easy. We have pushed this morning, but everybody is going really fast and we can't make the time back. Let's see in the long one."
Loeb is chasing his 60th World Rally Championship win in Japan, but, more importantly, he is closing on a seventh consecutive title - which he is looking likely to win on his home rally in France, the next round of the championship, rather than this weekend.
