Andersson plans to cruise to finish

Super 2000 class leader P-G Andersson says he will not take any more risks as he aims to manage his minute lead in the category's inaugural round, this week's Rally Sweden

The former factory Suzuki WRC driver, who is making his debut in a Skoda Fabia S2000 in Sweden, was unbeaten in the S2000 WRC series for the first 10 stages of the Karlstad-based event and admitted he had surprised himself with the lead he built during the first half of the rally.

"I'm not surprised at the speed I'm driving at, I know I can cope with this speed, but I thought the competition would be closer," said Andersson, who is running as a wildcard entry.

"For me it's about keeping the same speed now. Yesterday I was taking some risks, maybe not big risks, but I was running wider in some corners than I might have liked, but today is about managing the gap and staying ahead of the other guys."

Andersson's Fabia was finally beaten by another Skoda, that of Norwegian Eyvind Brynildsen, who won stages 11 and 12 from fifth place in the S-WRC.

The double Junior World Rally champion does not have any further outings planned in the Fabia, a car he only tested for 80 kilometres before the start of the opening round of this year's World Rally Championship.

The only downside to the event for Andersson was a 10-second penalty which he received for early arrival at last night's superspecial stage in Karlstad.
