Jari-Matti Latvala says starting position choice will be a lottery on Rally GB
Ford driver Jari-Matti Latvala has admitted the selection of starting position will be more of a lottery on this week's Rally GB than any other event of this season
While the changeable weather conditions make it almost impossible to pick the right place, the Finn says he is ready to gamble on running at the head of the field.
"If you want to place safe, then you can go for somewhere in the middle," said Latvala.
"It is more of a lottery here than anywhere else. If I was [Sebastien] Loeb, I would take fifth on the road, this safe choice. But for me, I have a couple of options and if I want to take the risk then I will go first on the road - maybe that's where you will find me."
Latvala, who won this event last year, added that the weather was also making tyre choice for the event extremely difficult. For the first time, crews have been given enough hard and soft tyres to run through the rally, but the problem for the drivers is the long loops on Friday.
"If there are dry sections on the road on Friday," said Latvala, "then the soft tyre will not last for the whole loop. We will have to mix the tyres with hard and soft on Friday - unless it is raining all of the time. But, will it be raining like this? I think this rally can be won or lost on the choice of tyres."
