FIA not expected to intervene in Armindo Araujo legal action

The FIA is not expected to take any action in the case of Armindo Araujo's legal action against the Motorsport Italia Mini team

Araujo has been replaced by Chris Atkinson for the rest of the World Rally Championship season.

The two-time Production Car WRC winner said he was put under pressure to declare himself sick and unable to compete in this week's German WRC round. As well as advising his lawyers, Araujo sent documents to the FIA.

A source close to the Motorsport Italia Mini team said: "I don't see what the FIA can do about this. This is a matter between the team and Armindo. It's really an internal matter."

In terms of changing the number one driver in the team, Motorsport Italia Mini has followed the FIA's WRC Sporting Regulations.

Regulation 7.2.6 states: "A Manufacturer must inform the FIA of the name of the first driver entered for the season at the time of registration for the championship. This driver may change only after the agreement of the WRC Commission."

The WRC Commission voted on the change from Araujo to Atkinson ahead of this week's Trier-based event.

Araujo holds the licence to the WRC Team Mini Portugal and denied Motorsport Italia the use of the name - which it has run - in Germany.

The FIA made no comment on the situation.
