Herbert seeks second win

Johnny Herbert is after a second Le Mans win to go with the one he achieved with Mazda in 1991 and in one of the two Audi Sport UK Team Veoqx R8s, he has a great chance to do just that

Herbert is paired with Jamie Davies - GTS class winner last year with a Prodrive Ferrari 550 Maranello - and 2003 Bentley winner Guy Smith. It's one of the strongest line-ups in the race, but there will still be plenty of competition.

"Having finished second for the past two years, I know it's not going to be easy," said Herbert. "We will have massive competition from the other Veloqx Audi while having also driven for the Champion Audi team regularly, I know how strong they will be - it has the ingredients for a great battle and perhaps a classic Le Mans race.

"Le Mans is the big one that I want to win again - the jewel on any driver's CV."

Smith also knows just what it feels like to win at la Sarthe and he also wants more of that.

"To win Le Mans once is a great achievement for a driver but to win it twice, you join an elite group." The Yorkshireman is also well aware of the level of British support there will be at the track, and he hopes to be part of another little bit of Le Mans history-making.

"A victory for Jamie, Johnny and I would be the first-ever all-British, three-driver combination to win Le Mans and considering it's the 72nd race, that would be something special," he concludes.
