H17: Oil spill brings out safety car
The 17th hour of the 24 Hours of Le Mans saw the Safety Car coming out again for the third time in this race, bunching up the field
The caution period was caused by a car spilling oil on Indianapolis corner, forcing a large amount of marshals to clean up the mess. Many teams took advantage of the situation by taking pitstops.
Before the Safety Car was called in, the No. 2 Zytek Engineering's 06S spun on the spilt oil with Emmanuel Collard running wide to avoid crashing his Pescarolo into the car stranded in the middle of the track.
No changes took place at the front, with the Audi No. 8 marching on in the hands of Marco Werner, followed by Sebastien Loeb's Pescarolo and Dindo Capello's No. 7 Audi.
The GT1 class continues to be led by the No. 009 Aston Martin with Pedro Lamy at the wheel, with Oliver Gavin's Corvette following in second.
Thomas Erdos's MG-Lola AER retains the lead in the LMP2 class, Dominik Farnbacher doing the same in the GT2 class with his No. 83 Porsche 911.
